Lessons Learned

Throughout my nearly 17 years with Deuce, he taught me so many life lessons. I’m so honored to be able to share them with the world.

  1. Be patient; never rush your dog.

  2. Stay off your phone during a walk. Be present with your dog - you’ll be thankful you did one day when you no longer hold their leash in your hand.

  3. Appreciate and celebrate the small things.

  4. Learn a new trick every month. Practice training daily.

  5. Never pass up a chance to tell or show someone how much you love them.

  6. Listen with the intent to understand, not just respond.

  7. Be patient with yourself and others.

  8. Let love and gratitude guide everything you do.

  9. Always be yourself.

  10. If you have the opportunity and means to help someone, do it.

  11. Always show kindness; you never know what someone is going through.

  12. Friendship is a two-way street.

  13. Never take things for granted.

  14. No matter how much time you have with them, it’s enver enough.

  15. Heavy grief is a direct reflection of how deeply you loved.

It wasn’t just incredibly important life lessons that I learned as Deuce’s mom. I learned that his happiness & wellness were improved by the following actions & intentions.

  1. No matter how tired you are when you get home from work; they’ve waited all day to be with you. Take time to play with them and walk them.

  2. Brush their teeth every. single. day. No excuses. It will pay off in spades as they get older. It can save you tons of money down the road as well.

  3. Trust your gut. If it’s telling you something is wrong, or to get a second opinion etc - do it.

  4. Don’t assume that every dog owner is as responsible as you.

  5. Don’t assume that every dog you see on your walk wants to be friends or even approached. Always ask their guardian first.

  6. It’s ok to tell people no when they go to pet your dog without asking. Always advocate for your dog.
